Ysgol Carreghofa Primary School is a village school on the outskirts of Llanymynech which is situated on the border between Wales and England. Their shared vision is to nurture valued, empathetic and motivated children to achieve and shine as part of Llanymynech community.
At the heart of the school is their fantastic, multi-purpose hall with its striking timber slatted ceiling, however, the amount of hard, acoustically reflective surfaces found within the room created a poor acoustic environment. Issues included a build up of noise during lunchtime and speech intelligibility problems during PE lessons and performances within the hall.
It was decided that something needed to be done and, after researching the market, children from Eco Committee at Carreghofa Primary School decided to contact acoustic absorption experts, Sound Reduction Systems (SRS). The Eco Committee used the online 3 Step estimator form to submit all the information SRS required to model the room and prepare a detailed report and quotation for the treatment. After reviewing the estimate, SRS were invited to site to take detailed measurements, drop off sample and answer any questions the school had regarding the treatment. Following the site visit, Alex Docherty stated:
“The main hall at Carreghofa school was very impressive and modern, however, it was clear that the acoustics needed improving to enhance the experience of the staff and children that used it every day. I was able to take detailed measurements and confirm our specification whilst planning a layout design for the panels that was sympathetic to space.”
Once the Eco Commiteel had all of the information, they were able to approach the school for sign off on the project and approve the order. The very last job was to select a colour for the panels and after consultation with staff and the children, the pale blue ‘Ice Cap’ was chosen and the 31 Sonata Aurio panels were installed in a single day. Following the installation, the school commented:
