Norton Juxta Twycross is a small, peaceful village nestled in the north-west of Leicestershire, close to the border with Warwickshire. Steeped in rural charm, it sits within a patchwork of rolling countryside, farmland, and winding lanes, offering the sense of a traditional English village setting. Its location places it within easy reach of nearby market towns and attractions, and its Village Hall provides local residents with a fantastic community resource.
However, for over 30 years the hall had suffered with poor room acoustics with the excessive reverberation and echo making for an uncomfortable environment for many if its users. The hall committee decided something needed to be done and set about researching companies and products to solve the problem. Hall Treasurer, Adrian Brown, contacted sound absorption specialists, Sound Reduction Systems (SRS), to investigate potential solutions.
SRS sent a technical representative to site to meet the team, drop off samples, and undertake a full site survey. Following this, the SRS technical team were able to use software to model the space, calculating exactly the amount of their Sonata acoustic treatment required to bring the current mid frequency reverberation Time down from over 3 seconds to below 1.2 seconds (Tmf). SRS then provided the hall with a report, graphical calculations, 3D layout visuals, and quotes for both bonded Sonata Aurio and suspended Sonata Vario acoustic absorption panels.
Following a successful bid to the National Lottery Community Fund funds were secured for the suspended Sonata Vario treatment and SRS were instructed to supply and fit the panels at a time convenient to the hall. Requiring only one day to install, the panels were fitted and the feedback has been overwhelmingly positive. Hall spokesman, Adrian Brown comments:
‘First class customer service from initial contact, advice, site visit, technical submission, and installation. The price is also competitive with options to suit your pocket. The resulting reduction in echo/reverberation was immediately obvious and the feedback from the people who use our Hall is very positive. After 30 years, the village can fully enjoy the facilities we have. Well done Sound Reduction Systems!’
Why It Matters
Village halls, schools and community buildings often suffer from poor acoustics due to hard surfaces and open-plan spaces. Sonata acoustic absorption panels offer a practical, cost-effective way to reduce echo and create a more comfortable environment for everyone using the space.
