Unitarian Hall was formerly a church used by Godalming Unitarians (founded in 1783) who currently worship at the 18th century Chapel on the same site.
Today, the Hall provides a vital, local facility that can be rented for community activities and private events.
However, the poor acoustics within the Hall were causing issues for the users and it was decided that a solution to the problem had to be found. Godalming Unitarians Chair of Trustees, Christine Martin, had recently received an offer from Sound Reduction Systems Ltd (SRS) of a free site visit and 10% discount on all acoustic materials and decided to get in touch.
Christine was able to provide SRS with dimensions of the Hall along with some pictures of the ceiling and walls. The information allowed SRS to model the Hall and issue a report, specification and quotation for the required treatment. SRS followed this up with a free of charge site visit to conduct a detailed survey of the room and a layout design for the panels.
In total, SRS specified 34.56m2 of their Class A rated Sonata Vario panels suspended from the ceiling, arranged neatly and evenly around the existing fixtures and fittings.
Following the one day installation, Chair of Trustees, Christine commented:
“The congregation were delighted with the acoustic improvement in the Hall today. People could hear each other at coffee time! People loved the 'banana' tiles - saying they were cheerful, warm and bright.”
