Failing a sound insulation test is almost certainly the result of one, or a combination, of the following factors: -
- Poor advice
- Poor product
- Poor installation
- Flanking noise (Compromising the sound insulating element)
Unfortunately, some of these elements are all too common in the acoustic supply market today, and there is no magic answer that we can offer to solve the problem instantly. More often than not, the solution will involve more building work and another acoustic test – it’s harsh, but once you have a failure, you really have no other option. That said it is vital that the same mistakes aren’t made twice.
If you do find yourself in this unfortunate situation, the first thing to do is ask the advice of the acoustic consultant on site. They should have a good idea of how and why the structure is failing, you might get some good pointers from them. The next thing to do is obtain a copy of the failed test report. This is very important information to arm yourself with when looking for solutions and allows the reputable and qualified manufacturers, who understand the figures and graphical results, to offer their best advice. SRS Ltd will be happy to receive and review any failed test reports to info@soundreduction.co.uk or fax: 01204 380957 completely free of charge.
